Men's Fashion Accessory - The Necklace

Unlike in the past, where only women used to wear necklaces and bracelets, today, men also do wear chains and bracelets - it is not considered feminine for them to do so. In men's fashion, today, necklaces and bracelets are accessories, just as cufflinks, watches etc. are. Gold is the most preferred metal for necklaces since it gives an idea that the person has "arrived" - a matter of wealth, that the person is financially well-to-do and is not hesitant to flaunt that. Of course for formal business meetings, it is still not considered very proper for men to wear a necklace but alright for a party in the evening or for youngsters to do it.
Apart from gold, silver, platinum steel is also used but gold definitely is the most popular - all this just adds up to the person's personality. If you keep one or two buttons unbuttoned from your shirt, it would be difficult for anyone not to spot your necklace.
In olden times, even when the Roman emperors were there, men freely used to wear necklaces embellished with gems and jewels. The same was the case of medieval emperors, kings, princes in India - in fact, the common man could not afford to wear such necklaces, so it was a matter of showing one wealth and status.
